Before you Apply: Requirements and Priorities

First Priority

Couples requesting one-bedroom apartments, families of three or four requesting two-bedroom apartments, and families of five or six requesting three-bedroom apartments have first priority for each of those apartment types. In any of these cases, applicants can be any age, but Family Housing requires proof of commitment/relation* in order to process the application. Also included in first priority are single applicants requesting a studio apartment. Eligibility documentation is required before a housing offer will be sent.

Second Priority

Single applicants requesting a one-bedroom apartment, a couple or family of two requesting a two-bedroom apartment, or a family of three or four requesting a three-bedroom apartment have second priority for each of those apartment types. Proof of a minimum age of 21 years and/or undergraduate junior status at the time of move-in for a single applicant as well as proof of commitment/relation for couples and families apply. Eligibility documentation is required before a housing offer will be sent.

*Proof of Commitment/Relation

  • Marriage certificate
  • Engagement announcement from newspaper
  • Joint checking account for at least one year
  • Beneficiary on life insurance policy
  • Previous lease in both names for at least two years
  • Domestic Partner Registry for City of Boulder

Third Priority

Third Priority: If applicants want to live in Family Housing with someone not related, one person is required to be 21 years of age at the time of move-in or have a minimum of undergraduate junior status (60 credit hours completed) at the time of move-in but no proof of commitment/relation is required. Eligibility documentation is required before a housing offer will be sent.

In all instances, the lease is under one person's name. That person is legally responsible for collecting and paying the full rent, any damages, and all items contained in the lease.
