  10. Once I accept an offer how do I move in?
  1. Are pets allowed?

No. There are several reasons for this decision including the potential for damage to the apartment, the possibility of an allergic reaction by a future resident, potential for neighbor conflicts, residents leaving pets behind when they move out, and problems with enforcement.

  2. Do the apartments have air conditioning? If not, may I install an air conditioner in my apartment?

The only area of Family Housing with air conditioning is Athens North. If you live in another area, you may install a window air conditioner as long as you cause no damage to the apartment and remove it when vacating the apartment.

  3. What do I do if I'm locked out of my apartment?

You can contact your resident manager or the back-up resident managers in your area to let you in. You must have a picture ID with you and your name must be on the lease that is kept on file in the Family Housing office to be let in. Children under 12 years of age will not be admitted to the apartment without a parent present.

  4. What do I do if something is broken in my apartment?

    See Resident Resources

  5. How do I get involved in the family housing community?

There are several ways to get involved. The easiest way is to attend the various events planned by Family Housing and bring your family! If you read The Courtier, your monthly newsletter, you'll see the calendar with all the events for the month listed. You can also consider running for the Resident Council, which will give you a voice in the community and a small monthly stipend. Finally, every February you can apply to become a resident manager. Read your February Courtier for more information.

  6. How do I find out when I'll get an apartment?

Since residents are only required to give 45 days notice when they are moving out, Family Housing will only find out what is available for your requested move-in date approximately 30-50 days beforehand. During busy move-in times it is necessary to make several rounds of apartment offers starting with those applicants who have first priority and who applied earliest. You can expect to receive an offer via e-mail approximately 30-50 days before your requested move-in date if an apartment that meets your needs is available. Apartment offers will only be sent to individuals that have submitted eligibility documentation. If Family Housing is unable to meet your needs for your present requested move-in date, please know that you can change your requested move-in date on your application at any time, as long as your application is not cancelled for reasons below.top

  7. What do I do if I want to accept an apartment offer?

First, reply to the e-mail offer stating that you would like to accept the offer. For security deposit payment, you have several options. Please remember that the Family Housing office does not accept cash.

REMOTE: Family Housing cannot accept credit card information via e-mail. You may fax your deposit to 303-492-2483. Please include in your fax a written statement saying "I authorize the Family Housing office to charge this card for the deposit balance [state numerical amount to be charged]," and be sure to include the credit card number, expiration date, then print and sign your name, and date it. Do not photocopy your credit card; please write out the information. If you are unable to send credit card information by fax, you can mail a check (payable to University of Colorado) to 1350 20th St, Boulder, CO, 80302.

IN PERSON, at the Family Housing office: Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Family Housing can accept credit card or check. If you come in Monday through Friday between 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., or Saturday 9:00am-8:00 p.m., Family Housing can accept check only.

Finally, Family Housing requires an eligibility document showing that you are enrolled/employed at CU for the upcoming semester upon application. Apartment offers will not be sent if eligibility documentation has not been received. Students: a copy of your acceptance letter and/or schedule showing that you are a full-time student; Faculty/Staff: a letter from your department stating position title, dates of appointment (start and end date), and that you are a 100% full-time employee.

A NOTE REGARDING SECURITY DEPOSIT PAYMENT: As stated in the offer letter, "By accepting this offer and paying the balance of the security deposit, you are accepting the terms of the 2007-2008 Family Housing Lease." Once you pay the deposit, you are responsible for paying rent for this apartment starting on the move-in date stated in the offer letter. If, after paying the deposit, you should decide you no longer want to move in, you are required by the lease to provide 45 days notice starting from the move-in date (in other words, pay 45 days of rent).

  8. What do I do if I want to decline an apartment offer?

Please respond by e-mail and indicate whether or not you would like to remain on the waiting list, and specify a new date and/or preferences so that Family Housing may better meet your housing needs. If you do not wish to remain on the waitlist, please state that you are declining the offer and that you would like to cancel your application. The application fee is non-refundable.top

  9. Under what circumstances are applications cancelled?

If an applicant does not respond to communication (e-mail, phone message, etc) from the Family Housing office by the stated deadline in that communication, the application will be cancelled and the applicant will need to reapply. If you decline two housing offers, the application will be cancelled, the fee forfeited, and the applicant will need to reapply.
