Chancellor's Leadership Residential Academic Program

chancellors leadership residential academic progam

The Chancellor's Leadership Residential Academic Program (CLR) at Williams Village provides a living and learning community for students with an interest in leadership development. Students who enroll in CLR select one of two academic tracks: the Ethnic Living and Learning Community (ELLC) or the Service Initiative (SI). Leadership courses offered each semester meet core requirements in the College of Arts and Sciences and can be applied toward graduation as well as a certificate in the Study and Practice of Leadership. Classes are limited to 25 students each. Other courses available through CLR include writing, political science, humanities, philosophy, and ethnic studies. In addition students can participate in program-sponsored activities outside of the classroom. These include dining and engaging in informal discussions with faculty members, a speaker series, social activities, outdoor adventure, and opportunities to meet with representatives from government, private industry, and nonprofit and community organizations.

Ethnic Living and Learning Community (ELLC)

The Ethnic Living and Learning Community (ELLC) provides a multicultural living and learning experience and the opportunity to study leadership from a multicultural and global perspective. ELLC students, faculty, and staff devote themselves to building community both in and out of the classroom. Small class sizes, mountain retreats, social and educational events, academic excellence, and networking are some of the program's benefits. ELLC instructors create an academically challenging environment; they also take pride in getting to know students on a personal level while engaging them in the learning process. The ELLC is a CU-LEAD Alliance Neighborhood.

Service Initiative (SI)

The Service Initiative (SI) offers leadership development with an emphasis on civic responsibility and community service. In leadership courses students explore their roles and responsibilities in society, including the moral and ethical dimensions of leadership. The service practicum enhances classroom content by offering activities that reinforce student's leadership knowledge and skills. In early fall and again in spring, SI students and staff attend a mountain retreat where participants explore contemporary issues related to leadership and take part in activities that develop teamwork, ethical decision making, and problem solving.
