The Leadership Programs at Williams Village provide two living and learning communities for students with an interest in leadership development. The mission of the program is to become a model 21st century program of Colorado's "Flagship University" by educating first year students for leadership roles in a global and multicultural setting through an innovative forward looking curriculum that sets high standards for scholarship and leadership and which fosters lasting commitment to the betterment of society. Students who enroll in the program select one of two academic tracks: the Ethnic Living and Learning Community Leadership Studies Program (ELLC) or the Chancellor's Leadership Studies Program (CLSP). Leadership courses are offered each semester and meet core requirements in the College of Arts and Sciences and can be applied toward graduation as well as a certificate in the Study and Practice of Leadership. Classes are limited to 25 students each. In addition students participate in program-sponsored activities outside of the classroom. These include retreats, dining and engaging in informal discussions with faculty members, a speaker series, social activities, outdoor adventure, and opportunities to meet with representatives from government, private industry, and nonprofit and community organizations.
Ethnic Living and Learning Community (ELLC)
The Ethnic Living and Learning Community (ELLC) provides a multicultural living and learning experience and the opportunity to study leadership from a multicultural and global perspective. ELLC students, faculty, and staff devote themselves to building community both in and out of the classroom. Small class sizes, retreats, social and educational events, academic excellence, and networking are some of the program's benefits. ELLC instructors create an academically challenging environment; they also take pride in getting to know students on a personal level while engaging them in the learning process. The ELLC is a CU-LEAD Alliance Neighborhood.
Chancellor's Leadership Studies Program (CLSP)
The Chancellor's Leadership Studies Program (CLSP) offers leadership development with an emphasis on civic responsibility and community service. In leadership courses students explore their roles and responsibilities in society, including the moral and ethical dimensions of leadership. The service practicum enhances classroom content by offering activities that reinforce student's leadership knowledge and skills. In early fall and again in spring, CLSP students and staff attend a retreat where participants explore contemporary issues related to leadership and take part in activities that develop teamwork, ethical decision making, and problem solving.
