Housing & Dining Services

Community Safety

A primary goal in Housing & Dining Services is to promote safe, secure, and comfortable living environments for the students. However, the residence halls are only as safe as the students make them. Do your part by locking your room door, not admitting people you do not know into the hall, and not propping open outside security doors.

Housing has instituted several programs and services to promote safety in all residence halls.

  • All exterior doors except the main lobby doors are locked 24 hours a day.
  • Residents use their Buff OneCard as their outdoor access key to their residence hall.
  • The University Police Department works closely with the residence hall staff by patrolling the grounds and parking lots around the halls.
  • Residence hall staff is trained in emergency procedures. Fire drills are held on a regular basis to ensure that all residents know evacuation procedures.
  • All rooms have fire-suppression/sprinkler systems.
  • The University Police Department works closely with the residence hall staff by patrolling the grounds and parking lots around the halls.
  • CU NightRide provides transportation options for students across campus.
  • Registration for laptop computers and bicycles is available through campus police.
  • Resident advisor staff provide duty coverage from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. nightly that includes safety checks and rounds throughout the building.
  • Fire safety meetings are held at the beginning of the year.
  • Blue light emergency phones can be found around the campus to contact campus police in an unsafe situation.
