What kind of computer should I bring to campus?
It is recommended that you bring a laptop computer because of its portability. Wireless connectivity is usually built in to most recently purchased laptops. NOTE: Regular phone cords will not work as network cables. Dial-up modems will not work for in-room networking. See ITS for information on computer recommendations for students.
Wireless availability
All residence halls have wired Internet connectivity. All residence halls have wired Internet connectivity. However, residence halls, like the entire campus, are in a multi-year process of expanding wireless connectivity. Soon all halls and family housing will have wireless in addition to the wired network. Current resident halls without wireless are: Buckingham, Kittredge West, and Smith. These halls will have wireless installed in the future as part of a large renovation project. More information about campus wireless for security policies, computer setup, and coverage.
IMPORTANT NOTE: You do not need to bring your own wireless access point. For security reasons, they are not allowed on campus networks. For more information read computing and network policies.
